September 5, 1930 - April 2, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Val Tkatschow. Loved and missed by his partner of 33 years, Maureen; three children, Dwight, Dean and Valerie; three step-children Kathy (Mike), Tim (Sandra) and Geremy (Dawn); 12 grandchildren, Caroline, Jonathon, Michael, Rachel, Corbin, Savannah, Isaiah, Joseph, Jakob, Riely, Thomas and Nathaniel.
Val was born in Zaporozh'ye, Ukraine to Maria Martens and Sergei Tkatschow. He was an older brother to Rita and Alex. He immigrated to Canada in 1949. He opened his own photography studio in the Oakridge area of Vancouver and operated it for over for 30 years. He retired and relocated to Gibsons in 1999.
"Bumpa" was an avid boater, skier and golfer, a prince in his own mind and was a charismatic, flirtatious individual who did things his own way. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11am at Gibsons United Church at Gibsons Marketplace, 473 Gower Point Road.
